Let's do a little match-making here!
Because ClearFactr is aimed at solution builders like you, we’ll never be able to know as much as you do about specific use-cases, especially in the context of your firm. We’re also faced with the fabulously unconstrained, but perhaps intimidating reality of every new spreadsheet starting with an empty grid – what you turn that grid into is up to you. But in record time, we hope your solution will be built on the foundation of our solution, delighting your end-users.
We can start with two broad Observations:
Before going any further, it’s helpful to divide possible use-cases into two categories, based on what ClearFactr is, and what it’s not.
You have some data plus formulaic relationships between that data that can be described in legacy-spreadsheet syntax. ("How much data?" – learn more on that.)
You want to safely change input data, and potentially lock down the business logic.
You want to be able to create and compare scenarios.
You need a controlled/managed editing process between two or more users.
You and your audience will benefit from a deeper understanding of the model itself, as opposed to "I don't need to know".
You want to be able to manage the audience of the model and monitor their engagement.
You have potentially many models, possibly related to each other in a variety of ways.
You have large amounts of un-computed data in one or more spreadsheets that is causing your legacy files to get increasing large, and the models to become increasingly slow. Ideally, other people want access to that same un-computed data.
You're in a position to leverage everything via APIs and integrations with other systems.
You have a purely-data situation with the need for heavy, multi-user, simultaneously-live editing.
With that data in the spreadsheet, you know you're going to want to sort, filter, "slice and dice", create pivot tables, etc.
The structure of your spreadsheet is going to constantly change while people are trying to edit.
Your final deliverable is a "camera ready" presentation with fine-grained control over many graphic design details. (For example, ClearFactr doesn't yet support multiple fonts or font sizes.)
By the way, in the cases above, we'd think of that "spreadsheet" as a database table. 😉 And if you're already using a cloud data warehouse -- wow can we help you.
If more of the bullets in the first section spoke to you, excellent -- let's keep going!
On the other hand, if the second section felt like a better description of your needs, no problem and no hard feelings -- ClearFactr might not be right for you, at least for now. We want you to be successful.

These are just some of the reasons you need a Single Source of Truth (“SSOT”). But in addition to that, you need to control who can do what, to what, when, and how. This implies permissioning and processes that manage how the SSOT changes over time.
On the question of "how much data": We know that some spreadsheets contain large amounts of data, perhaps many thousands of rows of something, and maybe for many types of things. People often attempt to carry all of that data around in their spreadsheet just because they might sometimes need some of it.
We believe this is almost always a "road to ruin." Here's why:
That data almost necessarily slows down the basic operations of the model itself, such as simply opening and looking at it.
Attempting to store that data in the "model" itself potentially prevents others from leveraging that data.
Lastly, let’s also clarify and reiterate what ClearFactr’s definition of a “model” is: Any ClearFactr model contains some amount of “input” data, transforms it formulaically with legacy-spreadsheet-style syntax, and computes at least one “output” result.
The best way to know for sure is to talk with us about your needs. Let's look at the software together in the context of your use-cases. We don't want to be a square peg in a round hole, and you don't want that either.
But because of the power and flexibility of the ClearFactr platform, chances are excellent we can guide you to an awesome outcome!
